Day 2 - Lag, Co-Op vs Bots
Time
to start picking up the pace! I’ve reached out to my friends in both
Kuwait and London to help train me on using Ashe and learn the support role. With a small bit of time difference we got together on discord. Chatting, I explained that my goal was simple:
- Help me achieve reaching level 30 in 7 days
- Look at and analyse the game in terms of Usability
- Gain knowledge of League and improve my understanding of the game
Day
2 started off by playing Co-Op vs. Bots, the fastest way to level up … From guides I have read, this is best done up to Level 15 at which point I can start to play versus real players. It was vital to make the most of the 7 day xp boost and win bonuses to ensure I could level up quickly.
A
friend suggested the best ways to play bottom lane, which made me think; there isn’t really a guide or area which explains how to play top, mid,
jungle or bottom lane. There is quite a steep learning curve when first starting out playing the game.
My internet connection here in Kuwait is not the best unfortunately. However, latency spikes during the game were handled surprisingly well by the client. It’s possible to play
with 500-2000 ping with small delay issues just fine whilst most games, depending on their
net code, can be totally unplayable. League manages to compensate for
lag effectively making the user still feel in control and the game still playable.
From
my prior gaming experiences, I am used to viewing a net graph on screen. This gives me the ability to see my ping
tracking in a graph format and more easily notice when my latency is spiking (This can be a
negative in competitive play which I can discuss).
I managed to play another 5 games again today winning all games vs. Bots on Beginner Level.
Usability takeaways:
- My friends were teaching me about movement and what to buy at the start of the game. This can only be shown and taught during a game. Without some friendly help this can be hard to learn or master. League has many attributes that help level your character.
- Ping latency - it's great how league keeps the user in the game and helps compensate for any delay. Would like to see a graph or ping graph (a part from what is shown in the top right) to show ping.. This may be possible but I was unable to locate an option in game.
